This is from the same Media Studies lesson where we were looking at funny pictures of Peter Crouch. We were studying adverts, and someone found a folder of drink driving adverts from Northern Ireland. There was one particularly horrific crash, like something the guys who make Casualty would do.
WARNING THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH DESCRIBES THE AFFOREMENTIONED ADVERT. IF YOU HATE HORRIFYING VIOLENCE, SKIP THIS PART.
I don't know why, I just need to describe it. Basically, there's two teenagers, a boy and a girl, enjoying a romantic walk through the country side. The girl sits on a stone wall, and the boy stands on the path gazing up at her.
(This is where it goes wrong.) Suddenly, she sees a car, which had just swerved to avoid a dog, tumbling through the air, and spinning towards them. The car slams into the couple, and the girl's legs are trapped, and she's pinned against the wall by the car wreck, and the body of her now deceased boyfriend, and she's screaming, and the passenger in the car is screaming and people are looking on in horror, but no one seems to be doing much in the way of helping, and then the ambulance arrives, and it skips to court, and advert over.
OK, THE VIOLENCE IS OVER NOW.
Yeh, it was a really, really horrifying advert. But very effective.
